Smithsonian’s Solstice Saturday

Happy Summer!  The Smithsonian Museums are helping us celebrate summer with the “Solstice Saturday” events.  The museums are staying open and offering special programs for all ages.  At the National Zoo there’s a kid friendly dance party and special videos.  At the Air and Space Museum they’ll have special telescopes that allow you to look at the sun.  Find the full list of events here.

Giant National Barbecue Battle

What’s more American than BBQ?  You can eat fresh barbecue and listen to live music at this festival on Pennsylvania NW between 3rd and 7th streets on Saturday and Sunday.  In addition to all sorts of food samples you can watch demos and a lot of different BBQ competitions.   There will even be the annual “Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest”.  There will also be several musical groups on hand.   The festival benefits the USO and the Capital Area Food Bank. Tickets are $12 dollars for one day of $20-bucks for a weekend pass.

Ice Cream Tour Laurel

Of course we couldn’t forget the WGTS 91.9 Ice Cream Tour.  We’re in Laurel at Granville Gude Park from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.  All the details on that are found here.
