Washington Monument transformed into a Saturn V rocket
Fifty years ago this past Saturday, Americans landed on the moon. Over the weekend that excitement was recreated on the National Mall. Thousands of people gathered each night to watch the Washington Monument transformed into a Saturn V rocket and jumbotron screen showing the moments that led up the moon landing.
Short of flying to the moon itself, it's probably the closest any of us will get to experiencing what things must have been like in 1969. If you missed it, here is some of the video courtesy of WGTS listener Steven Tracey:
