We hope everyone is staying safe during these difficult times. This message is to let you know of a data security incident with one of our providers.
The information on this page describes in detail a data security incident involving Blackbaud, a service provider for WGTS 91.9. We take our responsibility for data protection seriously and have conducted our own investigation to fully understand the efforts made by Blackbaud and to evaluate what measures we can take to provide protections for the data you provide.
On July 16, 2020, WGTS 91.9 was contacted by Blackbaud, one of the world’s largest providers of customer relationship management systems for not-for-profit organizations. Company representatives informed us that a Blackbaud service provider had been the victim of an extortion-related ransomware attack.
After discovering the attack, the service provider’s cyber security team worked closely with Blackbaud, law enforcement, and independent forensic experts. Together, they successfully prevented the cybercriminal from maliciously blocking system access and encrypting files – ultimately expelling the attacker from their system. Prior to locking out the attacker, the cybercriminal removed a copy of a backup file containing some of your personal information. This data breach began on February 7, 2020, and continued until the attack was discovered on May 20, 2020.
Information Involved and Blackbaud’s Response
Your credit card, bank account, and social security information was not comprised. However, the file removed may have contained your name, address, contact details, and gift transaction details (though not including any reference to WGTS). Because protecting client data is Blackbaud’s top priority, they paid the cybercriminal’s demand after confirming that all copies of the data removed had been destroyed.
Based on the nature of the incident, as well as investigations by Blackbaud, federal law enforcement, and cyber security experts – there is no reason to believe that any data went beyond the cybercriminal or that the information will ever become public.
As part of Blackbaud’s ongoing efforts to help prevent a breach from happening again, they have implemented changes that will better protect your data. Blackbaud quickly identified the vulnerability associated with this incident, including the tactics used by the cybercriminal, and took swift action to upgrade their security systems. Cyber security experts have confirmed through testing that Blackbaud is now able to withstand all known attack tactics. Additional details are available directly from Blackbaud.
What We Are Doing
WGTS 91.9 conducted its own investigation and has taken the following steps:

- We are working with Blackbaud to understand their strategy to ensure future data breaches are prevented.
- We are reviewing the security credentials of all WGTS 91.9 vendors who provide services related to personal data which needs to be protected.
Ensuring that WGTS 91.9 rigorously protects all of the personal data listeners and supporters share with us is one of this ministry’s highest priorities. We value the trust you put in us.
