Spencer’s Picks

There are a couple big events happening to honor our Veteran’s today.  This year is the 40th anniversary of the Vietnam Wall Memorial.  There’ll be special Veteran’s Day Observance at the wall.  Because it’s probably going to be raining, you can also catch the live stream at www.vvmf.org/live.

The second event isn’t prone to bad weather because it’s indoors. The Veterans Day Concert at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library features the U.S. Navy Band’s country-bluegrass ensemble “Country Current.”  They’ll have a special program for our vets.  The library has space for around 300 concert guests.  Masks are required inside the library.  The event starts at 1:00 p.m. today (Friday) and it’s free.

Believe it, or not, there are only six Saturday’s until Christmas. And this is a big weekend for Christmas Bazaars.  The Icelandic Association of Washington D.C. holds its annualChristmas Bazaar at American Legion Post 177 in Fairfax.  They’ll be selling woolen items, glassware, food and candy, while a cafe offers Icelandic hot dogs and other traditional treats.  This free event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Let’s stick with the Scandinavian theme.  The Royal Danish Embassy is sponsoring the Danish Club of Washington’s 57th Christmas Bazaar at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Rockville.  You can check out Danish china, embroidery, and holiday decorations as well as a café with Danish treats.  This event is free too and it runs from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
