Sleep is essential for our physical and mental health. March 12 marks the start of Sleep Awareness Week which raises awareness on the importance of sleep and its impact on your health. How many hours of sleep do I need?
The amount a sleep you need is determined by your age. Generally, adults need 7-9 hours of sleep per night, while teenagers need 8-10 hours and children need 9-12 hours.
How does sleep effect my health?
Sleep is essential for healthy brain function and emotional well-being. It plays an important role in helping your brain form permanent memories and can enhance your ability to focus and learn. Sleep can also help reduce stress, improve mental health and boost your immune system. A lack of sleep can lead to fatigue, irritability and difficulty concentrating. It can also increase your risk of developing health conditions such as high blood pressure and obesity. Stay well rested to avoid health risks and keep your body healthy!
How can I sleep better?
Getting a good night's rest can start with a bedtime routine and establishing a consistent sleep schedule. Begin by setting a bedtime and wake-up time and stick to it to establish a routine. Make sure your bedroom is dark and quiet, and avoid screens like televisions, phones and computers for at least an hour before bed. Try to minimize your caffeine intake and avoid eating large meals too close to bedtime. Exercising during the day can also help you sleep better at night.
