Hometown Hero Sweet Potato Cupcake

By: Claude

When you think of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I'm pretty sure your next thought isn't cupcakes (although I do love cupcakes --so that wouldn't be a surprise for me!).  Micheal, from Michaels Desserts in Bowie, MD --and a former WGTS Hometown Hero--just celebrated MLK day by making a special sweet potato flavor cupcake to honor his hero and Black History Month in February. The flavor of the  honors a traditional African American dessert, he says, "to represent a great African American" -The Washington Post. Michael says, he's admired Dr. King since he was in kindergarten.

One of the quotes posted on Michael's website is "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?' -Dr. Martin Luther King
Michaels Desserts gives back to the DMV, for every cupcake sold, one is given away to someone in need in our community.  Listen to our interview with him here on our Home Hero segment on the morning show with Jerry and Blanca.
