It’s that time of year again—students across the DMV are set to head back to school! With the new school year it comes along with a lot of excitement, new opportunities, but also nerves and anxiety for some.

WGTS correspondent Tom Miner talked with Montgomery County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Jack Smith to discuss ways to ensure the new school year will be successful. As a father of five and an educator for 38 years, Dr. Smith understands that the first day can be a bit chaotic. The superintendent says one of the best things parents can do is to have a genuine conversation with their kids about the upcoming school year and be as supportive as possible. In the podcast below, Dr. Smith talks about ways to make a smooth transition from summer to school year with practical back to school advice. Dr. Smith also shares ways to tackle back to school anxiety, ways to prevent bullying, and discusses ways that parents can be encouraging to their kids this coming school year.
